What is the communication like between WIC and its families?
WIC’s administrators, faculty and staff are readily available to answer any questions you may have concerning your child and their performance. There is regular correspondence sent home via newsletters, agendas, letters, emails, ‘Carnets de l’élève’ or through the report card. Messages may be left directly for your child’s teacher and they will return your call as soon as possible. What are the school’s business hours?
The office is open from 7:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each weekday and is open throughout the summer months, as well.
What is WIC’s total enrolment and approximate class size?
WIC’s total enrolment each year is approximately 440 students. This is divided into 88 students per grade, with 44 students in the English and French stream respectively. The average class size is 22 students.
How does my child get to and from school each day?
The school is close to all major arteries in the West Island and therefore attracts a number of car pool commuters. There is, in addition, excellent MUCTC bus service (#208) which connects from the Fairview shopping mall and stops at the school's front door.
Does WIC have a guidance councillor?
The College has a full-time guidance councillor on site who is accessible to all students.
What is the additional cost of the uniform and books?
You may anticipate spending $500 for a new West Island College uniform and an additional $500 for text books and materials needed for classes.
Does West Island College offer a used uniform / textbook sale?
A team of parent and student volunteers organizes an annual sale of used uniforms during the month of June each year. The sale is organized to coincide with the used textbooks sale. Typically garments that are sold at this sale are blazers and kilts.

Can parents be involved with the school?
The doors of West Island College are always open to parent involvement. There are parent members on the Board of Governors, and we invite parents to volunteer in various capacities including sponsoring or coordinating fundraising activities for worthy causes. While this is in no way obligatory, the WIC community is greatly enhanced by the contributions of its parent body and benefits tremendously through their participation.
Where WIC graduates go after high school?
Upon graduation, 100% of students go on to higher learning, of which more than 90% are accepted into their first choice of school and program. Alumni feedback indicates that WIC graduates are well prepared to handle a CEGEP and university schedule and curriculum, thanks to the emphasis WIC places on a semestered-timetable, formal examinations, study skills and positive work habits.
